How to give Christmas to Christ?

What will we be talking about?

So it's the time for Christmas eve, new years, boxing day! All these celebrations that make Christmas - Christmas right?

Well today we are going to talk about how you can give Christmas to Christ!

How will we talk about this?

In this blog we will use the life of Jesus to show how we should know who we are, why we are here and where we are going! These things will not only help in Christmas, but for every season.

And Why talk about this?

In this blog we will talk about… Christmas! What else! But we all know (to the point where it’s a cliche) that so many things can rival our attention for God in this season. So, biblically how do we maintain a radical pursuit of Christ that leaves the presents and food as a side thought.

JESUS KNEW WHO HE WAS

“I AM”

I Am the Bread of Life: Jesus alone can sustain us, who are but starving beggars looking for food (John 6).

2. I Am the Light of the World: Jesus is the original and eternal source of light in the universe for us who are spiritually blind by birth (John 8).

3. I Am the Gate of the Sheepfold: Jesus is the only door to life for us who are lost outside God’s will (John 10).

4. I Am the Good Shepherd: Jesus knows and cares for us who are orphaned, wandering sheep without a shepherd (John 10).

5. I Am the Resurrection and the Life: Jesus is the key to escaping spiritual death for us who are hopelessly doomed to death because of our sin (John 11).

6. I Am the Way, Truth, and Life: Jesus is the accessible path, the illuminating truth, and the giver of life for us who are lost, ignorant, and dead without Him (John 14).

7. I Am the True Vine: Jesus is the source of eternal life for us who are dead and useless branches apart from him (John 15).

So many in our culture today get their purpose from their identity, and we should get our purpose from our identity in CHRIST.

Why was Jesus here?

In Gethsemane, “Not my will, but yours be done.”

John 17, “I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you have given me to do.”

John 18, “For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

Jesus knew why he was on earth, there was a work, and the work was to seek and to save the lost!

But why are we here?

This is a question every human will ask themselves, no matter what age, we always have and always will ask ourselves why we are here! So if you know why you are here, how much more will your life look different to the lives of those around you? How much more joy and peace should be pouring out of our lives.

In Christ, that is where your true meaning lies! Its not about looking at others and saying they are better than me, they can accomplish more than me, they are more athletic, more musical, more talented, they have more chance of earthly success!

All humanity will find their identity in one of two things, God or the world! We do not seek after these earthly things, but instead we remember that we all have been given the same task, grow in our relationship with God and glorify him!

Like a team, you have different positions, different responsibilities, but the same purpose, win! So we are all different, but yet one objective, Glorify God who is in heaven, everyday, regardless of the season, Gods people never take a holiday from the proclamation of his kingdom.

Where was Jesus going?

John 14, “I am going to prepare a place for you.”

On the cross, Jesus said today you will be with me in paradise! Even in death, even in suffering, Jesus knew where he was going!

What does it mean to have an eternal perspective?

The Bible says that when Christ returns! We will be raised with him in the clouds! In revelation, that great book, the climax of the story is that we will reign with Christ in the new earth and new heaven.

We will have authority over the angels, this is what Gods word says it means to be a follower of Jesus, it is in this that we boast, that we scream at the top of our lungs that God is awesome, that God loves us and he loves you!

Application

We are called to be imitators of Christ, I know that there are people who we try to imitate and copy, these are people we look up to, well there is no one higher that we should look up to than Christ!

Jesus knew who he was, Jesus knew why he was here, Jesus knew where he was going! So we should know who we are, we should know why we are here, we should know where we are going! And we can know these things, and it puts us in an advantaged position in life, that others who don’t have Christ don’t have! And the christian message is that we take our advantaged position and help people, telling them that I was like you! Lost! But I am found in Christ, I am his and his alone!

What we talked about?

How to give Christmas to Christ. I know this isn't the traditional Christmas blog, but it seems at Christmas that we suspend what matters, that these truths are not for Christmas! But Christmas is another season, a season that can rival our attention, like anything in life, how do we as christians not conform to the world that is around them! By always knowing who we are, why we are here and where we are going!

How did we talk about it?

Who is Jesus

Why was Jesus here

Where was Jesus going

Knowing this, allows us to know who we are, why we are here, where we are going!

Why did we talk about it?

It is easy to get caught up with the world's idea of Christmas, it's easy to get caught up in the world in general, to go through the motions, to not care, to not know what to care for!

But knowing these things that we have talked about, will not only allow you to live for Christ this Christmas, but to live for Christ every day regardless of the circumstances of life.

Don’t let Christmas dictate the way you live, instead let Christ dictate the way you live.
